Spring Veggie Starts.
When in season, we offer the following:
Cole crops (frost tolerant): broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, lettuce, bok choy, Brussels sprouts. These are usually available by the end of February.
Warm season veggies: tomatoes, peppers (sweet and hot), eggplant, squash, okra, cucumbers, watermelon, cantelope. These are usually available by the middle of April. We advise gardeners in this area to cover or otherwise protect these tender plants if frost advisories are out. Danger of frost is usually over by the last week of April in Asheville, by the middle of May in the higher mountain valleys.
Early potato and onion sets are available by early February. Asparagus roots are available by the middle of March. Strawberries will be available by early March. Sweet potato slips are available in early May.
We try to stock the varieties of plants that perform best for our region. Please call us concerning availability.
