Jesse Israel & Sons Nursery is celebrating 40 years in business this year!

     We are a family owned and operated business, which has served Western North Carolina since 1968. The nursery was begun by Jesse L. Israel, Jr., wife Betty, and sons, David and Lonnie in Candler, NC on land that has been in the family since the 1700s.  
     In 1971 Jesse sold his service station and became a full time grower and landscape nurseryman. The nursery grew trees and shrubs in the fields, flowering and vegetable plants in the greenhouses, and offered its landscaping services to local businesses and residents.  When sons David and Lonnie graduated from North Carolina State University with degrees in horticulture they formed a partnership with their father and Jesse Israel and Sons Nursery was born.
     In April 1982 Jesse Israel and Sons Nursery was awarded the bid to operate the Garden Center in the new Western North Carolina Farmers' Market in Asheville.  This was a great opportunity to become more available to the area gardeners and offer a much larger selection of lawn and garden supplies and plants.  Jesse Israel and Sons Nursery and Garden Center quickly became an integral part of the WNC Farmers' Market.
     We have developed such a well-known reputation for providing quality products and service, that today customers come not only from North Carolina but also from several adjacent states to shop with us. We are proud to uphold the tradition of excellence begun by Jesse Israel and look forward to continuing well into the future.

Jesse has retired from the Garden Center, but the next generation is training to take over.  Lonnie and Gail's son Alan has come to work in the nursery with his Dad.  Alan has a bachelor's degree in horticulture from NC State University.  He ran his own landscaping business until last year when he came here.
